Hey, my last proper Substack post was 8 days ago. By my standard, that’s the equivalent of a decade. I miss writing to you, very much. But there’s been so much going on in my life that I couldn’t find the time to share my thoughts with you.
So here’s a quick update of:
What happened in the past 8 days?
A cool opportunity you might not wanna miss
What content am I brewing?
1. What happened?
Nov 4th: I came back to HCM from EdTech Asia 2023 Summit in Bali (notes and reflection are still being processed).
Nov 9th: Traveled to Hanoi for a few events.
Morning of Nov 11th: I gave a speech at Phenikaa University’s opening ceremony in front of 100+ students. It was my first time speaking at a formal event in an educational institution, and I was definitely not formal 😂 That’s why everyone will remember my speech.
That experience reminds me of my post “It’s easier to stand out than you think.”
In life, it's very important to know what game you're playing.
Not just how well you can play it, but also, what's your chance of standing out?(…) Are you a really knowledgeable comedian or a super funny teacher?
Afternoon of Nov 11th: I delivered my second TED talk. I’m happy that both my content and delivery improved significantly, and most people seemed to enjoy it.
I learned so much about public speaking, and organizing a TEDx event from a 2-time TEDx speaker perspective that I’m very excited to share about it in a future post, breaking down what makes a good TED talk.
I want to thank so many people who have helped me put this idea together, and it will be a separate post 😘

Here’s a question
Imagine a TEDx lineup of 6 speakers. The event has 1 tea break. It starts at 1:00 P.M. and ends at 5:30 P.M., where do you think is the best spot to speak?
Discuss why you think so in the comments :)
In my opinion, 3rd place would be the best.
Because, you won't need to try as hard to make a point and meet the listener's expectations like number 1. In fact, the chance of starting the show is 50/50. If you present well, you will shine. If not, you can pull the whole program out.
2nd place is not too different from 3rd place in terms of impression. However, it depends too much on the results of the first time. You can face the hall full of excitement. On the other hand, you have to try your best to revive the spirit that was not as expected after the first person's unexpected presentation.
Also, I think tea time usually happens in the middle of the show. That means 3 people talk and then take a break. And the rest will continue the show after that. Therefore, if you are the third person speaking, the emotional value and content will remain with the listener more than the second person. And, people will talk more if your content is good enough and has good sentences.
About the remaining points, I think it will be a bit difficult when the audience's concentration decreases a bit.
