Today, I was asked, “How can I make the most out of college?”
My answer was: “Win 50% and Lose 50%”.
And it has nothing to do with results.
Winning means playing a game you know you’re good at. Follow your strengths.
For me, these games are Football, Economics, and Education.
Losing means playing a game you have no idea how to play, but are eager to try. Follow your curiosity.
For me, these games are Rock Climbing, Camping, Improv Dance, Entrepreneurship, Frisbee, 2K, Creative Writing, Coding, Billiards…
Win 50% and Lose 50% means spending 50% of your time and energy in your comfort zone, and 50% out of it.
When you’re in it, chances are high that you will play well and win.
When you’re out of it, chances are VERY high that you will suck and lose.
The reason you should aim for a 50/50 split is
you want to accumulate both confidence and humility.
If you’re winning all the time, you get cocky and don’t learn much.
If you’re losing all the time, you get demotivated and constantly doubt yourself.
So, to get the most out of college, you should win 50% to keep moving forward, and lose 50% to keep learning.
Actually, this is also the answer to “How do I get the most out of life?”
