2 types of stare
As an Asian traveling in most countries outside of Asia, I notice 2 different types of stare. Stare coming from ignorance (not knowing) and stare coming from hate (knowing).
Ignorant stare is close to curiosity: I have never seen this human before.
There’s no problem with not knowing. That’s a learning opportunity. The question is Will you take it? Will you go out of your comfort zone to ask questions? Are you willing to look dumb?
The problem is hating despite knowing. That’s discrimination.
Not everybody has the privilege or opportunity to “know”. Not everybody in this world shares your views and experience.
So you have a choice: to hate the people who disagree with you or to learn about their rationale.
The choice to hate is always there. But so is the choice to love and understand.
